Can't see Japanese text on your Windows machine? Mac? Linux?
Did I mess up vocabulary (or anything else)? Find me on Facebook!

Instructions:
To use the applet, just click on the lecture you'd like to practice. The applet will give you a sequence of words (in English by default, or Japanese if you click "Swap JP and ENG") and you have to type the translation.

The program ignores small differences in spelling (sensei vs sensee, mukou vs mukoo, hanashi vs hanasi, machinasai vs matinasai, matsu vs matu), and it ignores spaces, and special characters. If you see something in brackets in an answer like "(to) read", then that part is only informational; it's not part of the answer. The answer will simply be "read". There is also a fairly sophisticated algorithm in place for detecting misspelling, so you'll probably be okay if you type "ikagag desu ka" instead of "ikaga desu ka". The system will let you know when it thinks you misspelled something.

Pressing ENTER/RETURN is the same thing as clicking "Okay". When you click "Give up", the program tells you what the answer was, increases the number of attempts by 1, and reshuffles the "deck of cards". (Giving up on a word means that the word is going to come up again. This way, you have to get words right exactly once each time you do a stack of flashcards. I've found this really helps you master a set quickly.)

Hopefully this helps you as much as it helped me in JP1000! As I progress in JP2000, I'll be adding more vocabulary.

Dude seriously the best site for passing JP1000, I got a 93 on my first test thanks to this site. Please continue to make sites like these for the Japanese Language courses cause it truly helps.

Thank you for this site! If it weren't for your compound online quiz, I would be failing JP2000.

Hi guys, I'm fairly certain the ''glitched'' characters are those with accents over top to indicate where the transition from high to low tone occurs in the word. My guess is that you're missing the necessary fonts. I'd rather not remove the feature for everyone, since it works for some people, so what I've done is the following. Beside every answer I've placed the same answer in parentheses, with the diacritic marks removed. This way, at least one of them will look correct.

A lot of the letters in the ''correct'' answers are being replaced with random characters. It's rather annoying, can you please fix it please!

Some of the words in Lecture 4 are glitching out. A lot of the vowels are being replaced with random characters, so the answers turn up wrong when typed in correctly.

Hope you can fix it as it's quite annoying.
Thanks!
